Julian and Ilfra both studied at the Royal College of Music, Julian as a cellist and Ilfra as a pianist. They also play each other’s instruments. Julian obtained the college performing diploma, ARCM and Ilfra a B. Mus degree.

Straight from studies Julian became a full-time professional cellist in the City Orchestra, Trier, West Germany.

After two years there they returned to Manchester to prepare for careers in music education.
Working first as a cello teacher in Bury and Oxfordshire, Julian went on to hold two managerial posts with the Music Services in Wirral and Hampshire as well as continuing to teach the cello. Ilfra has also enjoyed teaching the piano and cello.

Ilfra performs as a cellist with the City of Southampton Orchestra, pursues life as an artist, and runs Lainston Bed and Breakfast at home as well! Julian works part-time teaching the cello privately and as an arts manager for the charity Making Music.

Julian has played for many weddings, dinners and degree ceremonies in string quartets. Together Julian and Ilfra have formed Palm Court Cello as a more unusual combination, accompanied by plants!

They have recently performed in Hampshire for several weddings and special occasions including at the Upland Park Hotel, Droxford, and the New Park Manor Hotel, Brockenhurst. They have played in a marquee in a field, outdoors in a gazebo and overlooking Blackpool from the romantic hills nearby!
